What is this method? What are the three stages of skeptical doubt that Descartes goes through in the first Meditation (as his execution of this method)? What makes the final stage of doubt the one that Descartes settles with; what does it achieve that the other stages fail to achieve; and why does it achieve it? Also, why could one not just object to the final stage of doubt by denying that there is an all-powerful deceiver that’s deceiving us all the time? What is the misunderstanding of the method of doubt that this objection rests upon?
