P‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍urpose This project will help you apply basic business concepts and terminology in the context of a real business. You will research a publicly traded firm that sells to retail consumers. The project will help you gain a better understanding and application of leadership/management, marketing, human resources, and financial concepts. The project will introduce you to a number of online resources that business people use to obtain and analyze information. Project Overview 1. Select a publicly traded firm that sells a product or service. 2. Your project will involve researching the firm, researching, analyzing, and reporting required information related to the firm. 3. You should be should be able to get a lot of your information from the company website under: About the Company and Investor Relations. Format of your report 1. Provide each of the 5 headings below (General Research, Planning/Organizational/Management, Marketing, etc.) 2. Under each heading type your answer in a narrative/paragraph style using complete sentences. Do not number your answers/paragraphs. GENERAL RESEARCH 1. Find one recent independent news/ magazine article that describes some relevant news or information about the company. In your own words, write a paragraph summarizing the main points of the article. Make sure the link for the article is located in the last sentence of your summarization paragraph. If the link is not provided you will lose poin‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ts. Your article must be independently written. Do not use the company website or company produced press releases/publicity. 2. What is the most interesting fact/information you learned about the company from any of your research? PLANNING/ORGANIZATIONAL/MANAGEMENT 1. Provide the names and titles of the Chairman of the Board, CEO, and executive staff. 2. Find the company mission statement and explain the main points in your own words. (See chapter 7.) Add the link to the mission statement to the last line in your explanation, if this is not in the mission statement summary points will be deducted. MARKETING 1. Briefly explain the primary product line of the company and what you think the products competitive edge is (What sets it apart from it’s’ competition?) 2.
