Learning Goal: I'm working on a psychology discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.Chapter 5: A final spoiler-oriented discussion question, so make sure to read the slides first! Recall the PowerPoint slide looking at your word-pairs (including the original words NAIL, BOW, CLUB, BAND, LASH, RING and whatever word you paired with the original word).First, I want you to do is share your answers with your group. You can do so specifically by listing the word-pair with the gender coding (For example, NAIL and PAIL = neutral, BOW and ARROW = masculine, RING and BELL = neutral, etc.) or just give me the gender rating (For example, “Three of my words were feminine, three were neutral, and one was masculine”). I prefer the former, as you’ll be better able to address items in the next paragraph!Second, I want you to use what you learned in this chapter to analyze your own, personal word pairings. Address the following: 1). Did your word-pairs conform to your own gender, the opposite gender, or were they more neutral? If gender-conforming, why do you think they conform? What theories or concepts from the chapter might explain why your word-pair(s) are gender congruent? Be specific, listing one or two chapter concepts to support your explanation (define those concepts first and then apply them). If your word-pairs are not gender-conforming or if they are neutral, explain why you think you didn’t come up with more gender-conforming words. Be specific, listing one or two chapter concepts to support your anti-conforming explanation (define those concepts first and then apply them). 2). Note whether gender conformity is good or bad (There is no right or wrong answer for this last one – I am just interested in your reasoning either way!). 3). I want you to discuss if (or how) your thinking has changed about gender roles given the content in this chapter.Third, in your follow-up comment, critique at least one group member’s responses. Did they label a word pair incorrectly (e.g. You think it sounds more feminine when they said the word pair was neutral or masculine)? If you agree with their assessment, tell them why using at least one concept from the chapter.
