In this essay, you will tackle a topic related to journalism/media practices. This can be tied to one of the weekly discussion topics or a topic of your choosing (will need to be approved). You are encouraged to have an opinion or take a stance about the topic, but every opinion/perspective will need to be backed up with stats, experts, or studies. This can be written journalistically or as a more traditional essay. Citations and attributions will be AP Style (in text, direct quotes); five points will be immediately deducted if written in MLA. This means no bibliography or citation sheet will be necessary, because you will be quoting and citing directly in the essay.

The topic I want to focus on is whether social media companies should have the power/play a part to regulate what children see on social media, or if parents should be the ones to decide what their kids can or can't use. Part of this issue is that social media companies already hold so much power over us - do we want to give them even more power?
