CLTR3005 Research Paper Assignment Desсrіption and Instructions: The research essay promotes research and critical thinking skills by encouraging students to develop their own research topic on an area of interest to them. Research topics must intersect the area of culture and food and may be drawn from the course objectives. Prior to commencement of research and submission of Research Paper, students should present in the tutorial their research proposal for feedback. The last opportunity for presentation of proposal is November 24th. Students are expected thereafter to be working on their essays for submission. Students intending to present their proposal must indicate the intention to do so during the tutorial a week prior. Guidance to students: • Research essay must explore the area of food and culture. • Analysis must utilise the interdisciplinary lens of Cultural Studies. • Proposals for the Research Essay are statements of purpose and should contain: a. The short and long title of the research topic; b. The significance of the topic; c. The objectives/goals of the research; d. How you will achieve the objectives/goals; e. Proposed sources. • Research Essays should be: a. 10-15 pages; b. Times New Roman; c. Justified; d. Double spaced; e. MLA or APA style with Works Cited list: i. All information that is borrowed [data, figures, opinions, ideas or quotations] MUST be acknowledged i.e. the sources must be accurately cited using endnotes, footnotes or internal referencing. Failure to do so is tantamount to plagiarism which is a very serious misdemeanour. Any essay that exclusively copies and pastes information is liable to receive at least a zero. ii. Why did you choose this topic? b. How does the topic fit into your wider understanding of the world? Etc.
